Be On Time For Your Preliminary Hearing in Ventura County!

Preliminary Hearings are now scheduled every morning in Division 13 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Judge Ryan Wright presides over the preliminary hearing calendar. Judge Wright has warned defense lawyers, defendants and prosecutors that all parties must show up at the beginning of the preliminary hearing calendar on time. The calendar begins at 8:15 a.m. In recent days, Judge Wright has taken the bench promptly at 8:30 a.m.  He calls cases in alphabetical order.  Judge Wright will not hesitate to issue a bench warrant for a criminal defendant who is not physically in the courtroom when the case is called.

Defense attorneys and prosecutors are also subject to being sanctioned for tardiness. The word is out – Division 13 starts on time and the judge means business. For this reason, I ask my clients to arrive to court no later than 8:00 a.m.

The Ventura County Superior Court is located at 800 South Victoria Avenue in the City of Ventura. Division 13 is located on the first floor just to the left and down the hall from the security booth. Criminal defendants should always arrive early for any Ventura County court hearing.
