Sycamore Beach – A Warning to the Under 21 Crowd, by Bill Haney, Ventura County Criminal Defense Attorney

Sycamore Cove Beach is a wonderful place to camp and spend time with friends.  The beach is located at Pacific Coast Highway and Sycamore Canyon Road in Malibu.   The campground adjacent to the day use area often draws young people looking to enjoy an overnight stay.   However, youth groups looking to socialize with alcohol and marijuana should know that scores of “minor in possession” tickets are issued at the beach by park rangers.   Park rangers often swarm campsites where minors are suspected of consuming alcohol.   If you are under 21 and looking to have a few beers with your friends around the campfire, Sycamore Beach appears to be an enforcement priority for park rangers.   Possession of alcohol or marijuana by a minor results in a 1-year driver’s license suspension under California law.
